The Colts have now lost eight consecutive preseason games (2-6 ATS), matching the Chiefs’ eight-game slide (0-8 ATS). The 49ers had their five-game ATS winning streak snapped last night (were just 3-2 SU), leaving the Giants with the longest active winning streak at five (both SU and ATS).

Dallas will take a four-game preseason winning streak (both SU and ATS) into the contest, after opening with a 13-3 Week 1 win in Seattle. Home teams are 8-7 SU and ATS in Week 2 (just tonight’s game left), with eight of the 15 games going over the total. Six teams have scored 30 points or more since Friday, after only the Jaguars scored that many in their 31-26 Week 1 win over the Dolphins, over the preseason’s first 19 games. It’s the highest scoring game so far (75 points) and the Bengals’ 44 points are the most for any team to-date.

In the first three games of the series, the Yankees scored a total of 39 runs, as Boston starters allowed 24 hits and 20 runs in just 13.2 innings. The Boston bullpen, through four games, has allowed 28 hits, 16 walks and 23 ERs in 16.1 innings (12.67)! Monday’s starters are Cory Lidle and David Wells.

While Boston’s staff gave us plenty of pitching lowlights over the weekend, Jered Weaver of the Angels won his ninth game without a loss on Friday night (12 ML starts) when he beat the Mariners 3-0. The Twins have won each of those games, becoming the first team in the modern era (since 1900) to win 20 straight home games that were started by a particular pitcher. His ERA during that 20-game stretch is 2.03.

The Mets won their fourth straight game on Sunday (2-0) behind Orlando Hernandez. The team’s four-game winning streak is the longest active one of any team in MLB but more importantly, the Mets are 14 games up on the Phillies in the NL East, easily the largest margin of any division-leader. The Tigers and Yanks lead their divisions by 5 1/2 games.

In 1989, the Tigers were swept on an 11-game swing through Toronto, Boston and Kansas City.

Sunday’s defeat extended Seattle’s unprecedented losing streak against AL West rivals to 20 games (the longest by any team within its division since the inception of divisional play in 1969). Neither the Angels, Mets nor the Mariners play Monday. Monday’s schedule is fairly light with just 10 games on the card. All but the Yankees/Red Sox game will be played under the lights.

The marquee matchup is of course, the opener of a four-game series between the White Sox and Tigers in Detroit (7:05 ET). Ohio State fans will be hoping that history doesn’t repeat, as the Buckeyes have never won a national title after opening as the nation’s top-ranked team.

Troy Smith returns at QB and he led Ohio State on a season-ending seven-game winning streak (7-0 ATS). Texas, the defending national champs, open at No. 3 (8) and will host Ohio State in the season’s first “showdown game” on September 9.
